Shannon Elford- Head Coach/Program Director
A 2013 Xavier College Preparatory Alumna, Shannon joined Xavier Prep Crew her freshman year as a coxswain. By her junior year she grew out of the coxswain seat and became a rower. In the spring of 2012, during her junior year, Shannon became the first ever Xavier Prep Crew sculler. At Desert Sprints she was given the ultimatum: finish first in the 1x or the sculling program would stop with her. Since her win, Xavier Prep Crew has focused more on sculling, qualifying two boats to USRowing Youth Nationals and seven boats to Scholastic Nationals.
She was a member of the 2012 Lightweight 4+ that placed third at Long Beach Invite and fifth in the Southwest Region. The whole spring the lightweight 4+ was used to push the varsity 4+ and varsity 2- who were the first two boats in Xavier Prep Crew history to qualify for USRowing Youth Nationals. Her senior year she was a member of the first Xavier Prep Crew boat to compete at Head of the Charles. She was one of only two seniors who received an award from Xavier for “Outstanding Senior Athlete-Crew”. Shannon joined the coaching staff in the Fall of 2014 and became the head coach in the Fall of 2015.
Shannon graduated from Arizona State University in 2016 with a BA in Art Studies. During the summer she continues her passion for coaching by teaching swimming at an all-girls non-profit summer camp in Vermont.
